Panton ChairVerner Panton's cantilevered stacking chair (1960) was the first single-material and single-form chair to be made and has been produced by Vitra through three decades of development in plastics technology. This version consists of a single piece of strong, flexible polypropylene with integral color that will not fade over time. As striking as modern sculpture, this classic piece is appropriately durable and easy to clean in cafes or restaurants, and is comfortable enough to use as an occasional chair in an office or residence.

Design concept

Designer : Verner PantonIn the early sixties, the Danish Designer Verner Panton together with the Vitra Development Team, realised an idea which had preoccupied him for many years by producing a plastic chair from a single moulding. In 1967, the Panton Chair went into mass production, it was immediately regarded as a sensation and won many awards. One of the first chairs is exhibited in the Museum of Modern Art, New York. Today the Panton Chair belongs to the classics of modern furniture design.
